Contains 12 manuscript letters addressed to Calvert's sister, Velma Leigh. The correspondence documents Calvert's experience as a student at the Naval Training School at Harvard University. Six of the letters were written from Harvard, from November 7-December 21, 1944; the other six are dated February 12-March 20, 1945 and were written from San Francisco, where Calvert was temporarily assigned after completing training. The letters describe Calvert's daily routine, including details of his classes. The letters also include Calvert's replies to his sister's description of her work with mental health patients at the Compton Sanitarium and other institutions in California. The correspondence is accompanied by a business card, a Harvard Cooperative Society ticket, and a handwritten chronological list of events from February 13-March 12, 1945.
